Gremory — Duchess of the Western Gate

Patroness of power, wealth, and the breaking of closed roads. One of the most luminous and formidable spirits of the infernal nobility.

Who is Gremory?

Gremory — also known as Gamori, Gomory, or Gemory — is one of the most remarkable and multifaceted spirits described in the classical grimoire tradition. She holds the rank of Duke in the infernal hierarchy, commanding 26 legions of spirits, and is most famously documented in the Ars Goetia, the first section of the 17th-century compilation known as The Lesser Key of Solomon. She is listed as the 56th of the 72 Goetic spirits.

What immediately distinguishes Gremory from other noble spirits is her appearance: she manifests as a beautiful woman wearing a duchess’s crown, seated upon a great camel adorned with precious stones and jewels — an image that carries extraordinary symbolism around wealth, travel, and sovereign femininity. Her domain spans the West, and she is intimately connected with the hours of night, the stars, and the hidden gates between worlds.

Domain and powers

Gremory is the patron spirit of creators, rulers, and those who seek to build empires of their own. She holds deep knowledge of the past, present, and future — particularly concerning hidden treasures, the movements of wealth, and the secret desires of people. She is also renowned for her power over love, attraction, and the hearts of both women and men. Those who work with her report that she does not merely offer gifts — she restructures the practitioner’s reality around abundance.

Her most sought-after ability in modern practice is the opening of blocked roads. When circumstances seem impossible, when doors that should be open remain shut, when prosperity feels permanently locked away — Gremory is the force that dissolves those obstacles at their root. Those who placed those blockages upon you will receive a powerful reversal in return. She is, above all, a spirit of sovereign justice and luminous power.

Interesting facts

  1. Gremory is one of the very few spirits in the Goetia depicted in explicitly feminine form — making her especially significant within traditions that honor the sacred feminine.
  2. The camel she rides upon is a classical symbol of endurance across desert wastelands, trade routes, and immense wealth carried across impossible distances.
  3. Her name appears in multiple spellings across historical grimoires — Gomory, Gamori, Gremory, Gemory — each variant reflecting different scribal traditions across Europe.
  4. She rules over 26 legions of spirits — a number associated in Kabbalah with the divine name YHVH, adding a layer of cosmological depth to her authority.
  5. In modern Left Hand Path and Demonolatry traditions, Gremory is considered one of the most approachable and generous of the Goetic spirits, known for responding with grace and clarity.
  6. Her rule over “the past, present and future” places her among the prophetic spirits — she is asked not only for wealth but for insight into timing, opportunity, and the hidden mechanics of fate.

Ritual: how to call upon Gremory

What follows is a complete working ritual for establishing contact with Gremory — practiced and refined through direct experience. Observe every detail with precision and sincerity.

Preparation:

I. Place a natural fabric altar cloth bearing Gremory’s Sigil as the foundation of your ritual space. The cloth must be made of a natural material — linen, cotton, or silk — as synthetic fabrics disrupt the energy of the working. (You can purchase a ready-made ritual cloth with Gremory’s Sigil here.)

II. Draw Gremory’s Sigil directly on a mirror. The mirror serves as a threshold — a surface that exists between worlds — and her sigil inscribed upon it becomes a living gate.

III. Place three candles in a triangle formation around the mirror. The triangle is the classical shape of manifestation — it constrains and focuses the summoned presence.

IV. Inside the triangle, place your offerings and gifts. These may include fine jewellery, expensive wine, rare foods, perfumes, precious stones, or anything that carries genuine value to you. Gremory appreciates beauty and luxury. Give generously.

Your state of mind during preparation matters as much as the physical arrangements. Approach as a sovereign addressing another sovereign — with confidence, clarity of intention, and deep respect.

The summoning phrase

An tasa shi Gremory on ca

Speak clearly, with intention. Repeat until her presence is felt.

Ritual rules — strictly observed

— When calling upon Gremory, sitting is absolutely forbidden. You may stand or lie down — but never sit. This rule has no exceptions and must be observed from the first word to the last.

— Your head must be uncovered throughout the entire ritual. No hats, hoods, scarves, or any head coverings of any kind.

The invocation

(Speak aloud, standing, with uncovered head)

Gremory, Black Duchess, Lady of the Western Gates in the Temple of Night.

I call upon you, born in the womb of darkness. Appear from the scorched wastelands of the black sun, seated upon your camel adorned with precious stones.

Come at the head of your infernal legions, Duchess and seductress, beautiful and terrible, proud and resplendent, wise and all-knowing.

Gremory, patroness of creators and rulers of the world, who celebrate the triumph of flesh over spirit.

Gremory, who opens the path of temptation through wealth to those who seek it. Gamori, who knows the secrets of time.

My magnificent Lady of the West, who opens the gates of the world’s treasury.

Lead me into the golden temple of the night star, tempt my mind with the riches of the infernal empire, blind my sight with the brilliance of luxury.

Show me the path to a life where I may be the creator, the sovereign and king of my own empire — where I may manifest my dreams and desires.

Allow me to sing hymns among your devotees. May a place in your temple be prepared for me.

Ave Gremory. Ave Inferno. Glory to the ancient gods. Glory to the ancient forces.
